What if my child takes medication?
NorthBay Summer Camp staffs two full time RN's and one overnight EMT to attend to any medical
requirements your child may have 24 hours a day. NorthBay's Wellness Center contains
a treatment area, isolation rooms, medication storage, and appropriate bathrooms.
Twenty-four hour emergency medical care is also available at Union Hospital in Elkton,
Maryland. NorthBay Medication Requirements are as follows:
- Health forms are required for every child attending NorthBay.
- The Health Form must accompany the registration forms for registration to be complete.
- All medications brought to camp must have a NorthBay Medication Form signed by a
doctor.
- All individual medications must be in their original containers, labeled for the
camper by the pharmacy, or in the original over-the-counter container with labels
intact. Samples from a doctor's office cannot be given to your child at camp.
- Medications forms are to be delivered to NorthBay at least two weeks in advance
of the camp date.
- All medications should be delivered to the Wellness Center by an adult on arrival
at NorthBay.
What is your camper to staff ratio?
Because we operate year round, NorthBay has a permanent staff of more than 100 qualified
individuals. During the summer, we carefully recruit a team of 40 additional counselors
from major universities around the country. All employees undergo a federal criminal
background check, drug test, fingerprinting, extensive training, and all counselors
are certified in First Aid & CPR. During the summer, we are staffed at a ratio of
at least 1 adult for every 3 children, and one per nine in the cabins.
What is the lodging/housing like at NorthBay summer camp?
Lodging is provided in one of 18 different cabins. Each cabin consists of 2 rooms,
with 5 bunk beds each, for a total sleeping capacity of 10/room and 20/cabin. Inside
the cabin, each room has a bathroom so there are no trips to the outhouse in the
middle of the night! Each cabin has at least one adult per nine campers. Our cabins
are heated and air conditioned, so your child will be comfortable inside their cabin
regardless of what the temperature is outside. Cabins are separated by gender across
the main green and girls and boys are NEVER allowed to share the same cabin. Campers
are not allowed in the cabins without adult supervision.
What kinds of meals are served at NorthBay?
NorthBay mealtimes are fun, served family style to make them nutritious, tasty,
and full of surprises, with the added opportunity of making and developing friendships.
Our executive chef and full-time professional kitchen staff can easily accommodate
any special dietary needs your child may have.
Can I visit my child at camp?
We strongly discourage parents from visiting their children at camp for security
reasons and because it can cause disruption and/or home-sickness for campers. We
ask that if you need to pick up or drop off your child for an extenuating circumstance,
it is between the hours of 8 am and 6 pm.
Can I call my child every day to check in on them?
Phone calls are also strongly discouraged for the same reasons we discourage visitors.
As much as we know you will miss your child during their camp stay, we are requesting
that you NOT call your children to check on them daily so that they can fully experience
their time away at camp. We will never prevent you from communicating with your
child. We will, however, encourage you to speak with a manager or your child's counselor
first. All phone communication must be initiated by the parent. The best way
to communicate with your camper is with encouraging letters and email.
Messages sent via email to summercamp@northbayadventure.com
will be delivered to children each day before dinner.
Summer camp is a "rite of passage" where parents can celebrate best when they allow a child
to stand on their own to the maximum possible opportunity. Keeping track of their
responsibilities, social relationships, meals, unforeseen needs, schedules etc,
without parental oversight is a rite of passage every child needs and deserves.
NorthBay provides trained, nurturing adults to make sure they are safe and making
good choices. With the exception of extenuating circumstances, your child will be
discouraged from calling home but will be encouraged to mail letters and postcards
letting you know how much fun they are having! We have a strict no cell phone
policy. Any cell phones or other electronics (iPods, stereos, hand
held games, laptops, etc.) found on the premises will be confiscated and returned
at the end of the session.
There is never a boring day at NorthBay, so you can rest easy knowing your child
will be engaged in fun-filled, exhausting activities every moment of every day.
What kind of counselors/employees do you have working for
NorthBay?
At NorthBay, your child's safety is our number one priority. We have strategically,
hand-picked our staff to hold your child's safety
in the same regard. All of our instructors are qualified in their field and all
NorthBay employees have been federally background checked and drug tested. Most
of our staff are career educators and are with us year around. All of our class
locations, adventure courses, and safety equipment are regularly certified and inspected.
What time do I bring my child on the first day?
What time do I pick them up on the last day?
On arrival day, we will be ready to receive your child any time between 3 pm and
4:30 pm. Pickup times for your child on departure day are set between 10 am and 12
pm.
Does my child need money while they are at NorthBay?
Your child will have an opportunity to make purchases from our own snack bar and
camp store during free time. The Frog Spit Cafe serves foods such as ice cream,
granola bars, sport drinks, soda, juice, pretzels, etc. We recommend $15-$30 for
snacks for the entire week. The NorthBay Trading Company Store accepts cash, credit
cards or checks and sells items such as toiletries, jewelry, educational books,
t-shirts, sweatshirts, and other NorthBay gifts.
Is there anything else I need to be aware of before I send
my child to NorthBay?
NorthBay has a zero tolerance policy for the use or possession of drugs, alcohol,
cigarettes, or weapons. Appropriate measures will be taken at camp, you will be
notified, and your child will be sent home.
